1 Installation

  1. Click the "Install via Self Service" button above, or open Self Service from your Applications folder
  2. Search for "Jamf Search Tool" in Self Service
  3. Click Install
  4. Once installed, open the app from your Applications folder — it will appear as a laptop icon in your menu bar
Not seeing the installer in Self Service?
This app policy has been pushed to all IT Team members, if you're not apart of that smart group, you may need to manually add your device to the scope in Jamf.

2 Create Jamf API Credentials

The app uses OAuth2 API credentials to securely connect to Jamf Pro. Follow these steps to create them:

Create an API Client

  1. In Jamf, go to Settings > System >API roles and clients
  2. Go to the API Clients tab, then + New
  3. Name it jamf-search-tool-[initials] (e.g., jamf-search-tool-dv)
  4. Set the API Role to "Read Only API"
  5. Leave Access Token Lifetime as-is
  6. Click Enable API Client
  7. Click Save
  8. Click Generate Client Secret — copy this immediately, it won't be shown again!
  9. Also copy the Client ID shown on the page - safe practice to store in 1Password

3 Configure the App

  1. Click the laptop icon (💻) in your menu bar
  2. Click the gear icon (⚙️) to open Settings
  3. Enter the following:
    • Server URL: https://fullscript.jamfcloud.com
    • Client ID: (paste from Jamf)
    • Client Secret: (paste from Jamf)
  4. Click Save & Test Connection
  5. You should see a green "Connected" message

4 Using the App

  1. Click the laptop icon (💻) in your menu bar
  2. Type a Mac serial number in the search field
  3. Press Enter to search
  4. View the computer details (name, model, macOS version, assigned user, etc.)
  5. Click "View Full Record in Jamf" to open the complete record in your browser
Tip
You can find a Mac's serial number by going to Apple menu → About This Mac on the device, or on the bottom of MacBooks.
